My hunch is that this is all part of the greater purpose -

Today we see fools lining up one by one to kiss his ring.

Some were fearful of him, but many want power by association, by his endorsement, by his potential rewards to the most loyal.

Afterall, this is a test of loyalty. Republicans laugh at his very dumb jokes, standing ovations over empty statements.

Yes, he is saved by God. He is saved so he can get everyone lined up with him - and when the time comes, fall together with him. You know how a cult ends - except that day may be sooner than you'd think.
